Presbyterian Sports Medicine will launch a Black & Blue Clinic for unexpected high school sports injuries Aug. 17, following the first week of high school football games.
After-hours care will be available to all high school athletes, from football players to cheerleaders, every Friday night this fall through Nov. 2, according to a release from Presbyterian Healthcare. The clinic is at Presbyterian Urgent Care Matthews, located inside Presbyterian Hospital Matthews.
Athletes must check in between 10 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. to be seen and care will be provided on a walk-in basis. The clinic is meant to be a "cost-efficient, time-saving alternative to the emergency department," according to the release.
The clinic will be staffed by Eric Warren, M.D., a board-certified primary care sports medicine doctor and certified athletic trainer. The clinic will charge at the rate of an urgent care visit and most insurance plans will be accepted.
