Football: Battle of the Burn Boosters Urged to Carpool Tonight

(Sept. 21, 2012) - If you have every attended one of the big high school football games in Loudoun you know that parking can be limited and tonight there is a lot of anticipation for both the Battle of the Burg at Broad Run where the Spartans take on Ashburn rival Stone Bridge and for the Battle of the Burg at Loudoun County where the Raiders take on Leesburg rival Tuscarora.

Broad Run High School athletic director Jack Kirby said Friday that parking will be limited and he is encouraging fans to carpool to the game. Once the parking lots at the school fill up, finding overflow parking can be an issue. Loudoun County Sheriff's officers were not allowing fans to park along Ashburn Road the week of the Briar Woods game (in the past fans would park along Ashburn Road on the night of big games).

Kirby recommends neighborhood streets nearby for overflow and said that the child care center across the street from the school will be open for parking with a $10 donation to the Make A Wish Foundation. Tickets for the Stone Bridge vs. Broad Run game are $6 with a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.

Loudoun County High School athletic director Ken Wright said it will be business as usual for parking at the school and he expects it will be packed for the game which features two Dulles District teams that are both 3-0 with Loudoun County averaging 41.3 points per game and Tuscarora scoring 32 points a game. East team is allowing under two scores a game. Ticket prices are $5 with a 7 p.m. kickoff.

Stone Bridge come into tonight's game ranked No. 2 by the Washington Post in the DC Metro area and 3-0. Broad Run (1-2) is trying to avoid a 3-game losing streak for the first time since the 2005 season when the Spartans went 1-9 overall. Broad Run was up to .500 (5-5) the next season and then went on a run that included a 10-0 regular season in 2007 followed by back-to-back state titles and undefeated seasons in 2008 and 2009.

Stone Bridge is ranked by VHSL-Reference as the third most successful program in the entire state since opening in 2000, only behind Phoebus and Gretna. The Bulldogs have 26 playoff wins during that period.
