Each week, South Charlotte News prep sports writer Corey Inscoe will break down the biggest south Charlotte football games and give predictions for every area contest.
There were no picks or previews last week because of the Democratic National Convention.
Week 3 results: 6-5
Overall: 24-8
Ardrey Kell at South Mecklenburg: Ardrey Kell (3-0) is off to a great start this season heading into the first conference game of the year against the Sabres. South Meck (1-3) finally got its first win of the season last week against Harding. The Sabres have struggled this year, but I think they have the talent to eventually surprise someone in the conference. My pick: Ardrey Kell. (I'll be covering this game for the Observer. Follow my updates on Twitter @CoreyInscoe.)
Charlotte Christian at Gilman School (Md.): You won't be able to see this one in person unless you're willing to head to Baltimore today, but Charlotte Christian (2-2) will have a real test with Gilman, who was nationally ranked by USA Today to start the season. Gilman is just 1-2, but last week beat New Jersey power Don Bosco Prep, ending a 46-game win streak. My pick: Gilman School.
Providence High at Rocky River: Rocky River (3-1) is off to its best start with its only loss coming to A.L. Brown. But can the Ravens keep the momentum going in conference play? Providence (1-2) has struggled since its opening game win over Hopewell, but they had last week off and an extra week to prepare for Rocky River. My pick: Rocky River.
Butler vs. Myers Park - My pick: Butler.
Charlotte Latin at Baptist Hill - My pick: Charlotte Latin.
East Mecklenburg at Independence - My pick: Independence.
Garinger at Charlotte Catholic - My pick: Charlotte Catholic.
Providence Day at Liberty Christian (Va.) - My pick: Providence Day.
