Top performers:
Dez Lawrence, WR/RB, Charlotte Christian: 254 yards of total offense and a pair of scores before sitting out the second half in the Knights win over Charlotte Latin. Lawrence is a big reason why Christian is playing for a state championship Friday.
Elijah Hood, RB, Charlotte Catholic: Numbers-wise, 248 yards and two touchdowns is just a standard performance for Hood. But what stood out in his performance Friday is his consistency and the way he helps Charlotte Catholic control the ball. Hood consistently got 5 to 10 yards in the Cougars' last possession to milk 5 minutes off the clock and keep Marvin Ridge from getting another chance to tie the game or take the lead.
Bryon Fields, WR/RB/DB, Providence Day: After rushing for just 24 yards in the first half, Fields finished with 198 yards and two touchdowns to help Providence Day make it back to the state championship game.
Kelvin Hopkins, QB, Isaiah Robinson, RB, Independence: Good starting debut for sophomore Hopkins: 13-of-25 passing for 238 yards and three scores in a wild 45-42 win over Northwest Guilford. Robinson rushed 27 times for 165 yards and three touchdowns. Robinson caught three passes for 58 yards.
