Each week, South Charlotte News prep sports writer Corey Inscoe breaks down the biggest south Charlotte football games and gives predictions for every area contest.

Last week: 7-1
Overall: 73-18

Providence Day at Charlotte Christian - Providence Day finally proved me right last week by beating Charlotte Country Day. Charlotte Christian has impressed me all year. The Chargers have underwhelmed me. I thought they were easily the favorites to repeat as state champions, but I don't think so anymore. I think Christian will win its first state title since 2008. My pick: Charlotte Christian.

Independence at Butler - Part II, Memorial Stadium - I hate that this game is so early in the playoffs. Should be at least third or fourth round. But it is what it is. I think Butler will just be too strong for Independence again. This Butler team is by far the best I've seen in the area. My pick: Butler.

Weddington at Charlotte Catholic - Charlotte Catholic had some trouble with Marvin Ridge in the first round last week, trailing 12-0 in the first half and winning 15-12. Maybe that will be a wake-up call for the Cougars, who cruised to a ME-GA 7 conference championship. Weddington is coming off a 42-6 win over Cox Mill in the first round. My pick: Charlotte Catholic.
