COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) – Defending South Carolina Class 4A Division II football champion Goose Creek is out of the 2012 playoffs after its appeal for reinstatement was denied by the executive committee of the South Carolina High School League.
The league issued its decision Wednesday.
Goose Creek was disqualified from the playoffs this week after reporting it had found one of its players was ineligible. A group led by Goose Creek coach Chuck Reedy presented their case to the panel. The executive committee twice voted against the Gators, ending their chances of returning to the playoffs through the public school's governing athletic body.
A spokeswoman for Goose Creek said the school was exploring its options. Reedy would not comment on the decision.
Goose Creek, ranked No. 11 in USA Today's national high school football, will be replaced by Conway.
