AAACentral Region FinalsDivision 5No. 4 Hanover (9-3) 35, No. 3 Hopewell (8-4) 7
The Skinny: Hanover hosts Stone Bridge in state semifinals Sat. Dec. 1. Hanover, which opened in 2003, has won three regional titles in the last four years. Hanover held Hopewell to minus-11 rushing yards in the win.
Division 6No. 4 L.C. Bird (12-0) 36, No. 2 Varina (10-2) 27
The Skinny: Bird wins first regional title since 2004 and improved to school-record 12-0. RB Paul Robertson set a school-record with 329 yards rushing on 42 carries including TD runs of 25, 84 and 19.
Eastern Region FinalsDivision 5No. 1 Lake Taylor (13-0) 54, No. 2 Phoebus (12-1) 0
The Skinny: That is NOT a typo as Phantoms ended their attempt for a fifth straight state title with the school's third worst defeat in history. Phoebus never crossed the Titans 40 in the loss. Lake Taylor had two 100-yard rushers in the win and QB Delmont Williams threw for 4 TDs.
Division 6No. 1 Ocean Lakes (13-0) 14, No. 2 Oscar Smith (11-2) 10
The Skinny: Ocean Lakes recovers fumble on Oscar Smith 38 with less than five minutes to play and score's game-winning TD with 3:30 left.
Northern Region FinalsDivision 5No. 1 Stone Bridge (13-0) 69, No. 2 Yorktown (12-1) 50
The Skinny: 3-point shooting and boxing out on rebounds was key for Bulldogs in win ... psych! Stone Bridge fell behind 29-7 early in this game and then scored 55 unanswered points including a 33-point barrage in the third quarter. The final score is actually mislead as the Bulldog starters exited with a 62-29 lead in the fourth quarter. Stone Bridge's Rassaun Goldring scored on an 87-yard kickoff return, 41-yard punt return and had a 42-yard interception return to set up a TD. SB's Sterling Dailey had 3 short TD runs and D'Ante Yarborough had TD catches of 20 and 90 yards and a 40-yard TD run. Ryan Burns went 5 of 7 passing for 174 yards and set the school's record for passing yards in a season with 2,365, besting the previous mark of Patrick Thompson (2,337 set in 2007).
Division 6No. 7 Oakton (9-4) 23, No. 1 Westfield (12-1) 16
The Skinny: Perhaps one of the bigger upsets in Northern Region football history. Kyle Downer scores three TDs and gains 172 yards rushing in Cougars win.
Northwest Region FinalsDivision 5No. 1 North Stafford (11-1) 49, No. 5 Mountain View (8-5) 12
The Skinny: Anthony Shegog rushed for 162 yards on three TDs on just 10 carries and Kwesi Dadzie added two TDs as Wolverines dominated short-handed MV.
Division 6No. 1 Hylton (10-2) 23, No. 3 Colonial Forge (10-3) 13
The Skinny: Bulldogs first regional title since 2005. Hylton out-gain CF, 327-20, in the first half alone.
AARegion I FinalsDivision 3No. 2 James Monroe (11-1) 35, No. 4 Park View-South Hill (9-3) 0
The Skinny: JM had nine different backs combine for 239 yards rushing on 41 carries.
Division 4No. 4 Courtland (9-4) 18, No. 2 Smithfield (10-2) 15
The Skinny: Cougars stop four second-half drives into their end in the second half, including recovering a fumble in the end zone for the upset.
Region II FinalsDivision 3No. 4 Kettle Run (11-2) 24, at No. 3 Monticello (10-3) 21
The Skinny: Monticello's last-second potential game-winning TD catch is ruled out of bounds as KR holds on to win.
Division 4No. 1 Briar Woods (13-0) 31, No. 3 Loudoun County (10-3) 0
The Skinny: Third straight regional title for Falcons as they extend state's longest winning streak to 27 games. Trace McSorley threw for 200+ yards and two TDs, led BWoods in rushing with nearly 100 and scored and picked off a pass on defense.
Region III FinalsDivision 3No. 1 Brookville (12-0) 28, No. 2 Rockbridge County (9-3) 24
The Skinny: Bees rush for 183 of their 274 yards on the ground in the second half.
Division 4No. 2 Heritage-Lynchburg (11-1) 12, No. 1 Amherst County (9-3) 7
The Skinny: Heritage limits Lancers to two first downs in second half.
Region IV FinalsDivision 3No. 2 Tunstall (8-3) 19, No. 4 Cave Spring (7-6) 15
The Skinny: Tunstall breaks up pass play at the goal line on final play of game to win regional title.
Division 4No. 1 Salem (12-0) 21, No. 3 Christiansburg (8-5) 7
The Skinny: First regional title for Salem in five years. Salem trailed 7-0 but scored on first two drives of third quarter to take control.
AEastern Section SemifinalsDivision 1No. 1 Franklin (13-0) 41, No. 4 Altavista (10-3) 11
The Skinny: Travis Brown runs for 188 yards and 3 TDs in win.
No. 2 Sussex Central (12-1) 26, No. 3 Central-Lunenburg (11-2) 18
The Skinny: Sussex blocked game-winning field goal attempt and returned it for a score as time expired.
Division 2No. 1 Essex (13-0) 48, No. 4 Central-Woodstock (10-3) 28
The Skinny: Essex Soph QB Dominek Broaddus had 268 yards passing, 4 TDs
No. 2 Goochland (11-2) 63, No. 3 King William (11-2) 36
The Skinny: Mitchell Brice (214 yards, 3 TDs) led a rushing attack for Goochland which piled up 498 yards.
Western Section SemifinalsDivision 1No. 1 Honaker (12-1) 17, No. 5 J.I. Burton (9-4) 0
The Skinny: Honaker piles up 297 rushing yards behind big O-line in win.
No. 2 George Wythe (11-1) 7, No. 3 Clintwood (10-2) 0
The Skinny: Game's only score came on 25-yard TD pass with 3:52 left.
Division 2No. 4 John Battle (11-2) 15, No. 1 Fort Chiswell (12-1) 14
The Skinny: Bad snap on Battle's game-tying PAT kick with 1:16 left turns into game-winning 2-point conversion as kicker Adam Jones picks up ball and tosses it to Robert Luchini for score
No. 2 Wilson Memorial (12-1) 27, No. 14 Stuarts Draft (8-5) 12
The Skinny: Wilson trailed 12-7 in fourth quarter before scoring 20 unanswered points.
