Less than two weeks after running the fastest time in school history, Providence Day junior cross country runner Ben Huffman broke the official school record for the fastest 5-kilometer time in a cross country race at the Charlotte Invitational Sept. 28 at McAlpine Creek Park.
Huffman won the race with a time of 15 minutes, 34.03 seconds, beating the school's previous record of 15:35, held by current assistant cross country coach John Compton. The official school record only recognizes times run at McAlpine.
Providence Day topped both the girls' and boys' team results.
Huffman ran a career best 15:21.2 Sept. 15 at the Adidas XC Invitational at the WakeMed Soccer Complex course in Cary. That beat the school's previous fastest 5K time of 15:26, held by Lewis Woodard.
