(Oct. 5, 2012) - Matt Rolin, the defensive catalyst that has sparked Briar Woods High School to back-to-back VHSL Division 4 state championships, a 33-3 record since his sophomore season and a current 20-game winning streak, was recognized this morning at the school's Homecoming rally for his selection to the 2013 Under Armour All-American Game.

Rolin, a 6-foot-4 linebacker and tight end, has committed to play next year at the University of South Carolina. First, he is spearheading the Falcons (6-0 overall, 4-0 in Dulles District) march towards a third straight state title.

Last Friday, it was Rolin and the defense stifling Tuscarora as Briar Woods muzzled the Huskies, 35-6, in a match-up of unbeaten teams.

Tuscarora's only score came on Adrien Stinger's 87-yard kickoff return as the Falcons crowded the line of scrimmage and stopped the Huskies ground game -- limiting super sophomore Noah Reimers to just 11 yards on 14 carries and Tuscarora managed just four first downs in the loss with just 78 yards of total offense on 31 plays.

Briar Woods, meanwhile, behind senior running back Cory Colder (110 yards on 27 carries) controlled the clock (almost 20 minutes more of possession!) and piled up 376 yards of total offense on 72 snaps. Falcons junior quarterback Trace McSorley had another efficient outing, going 10 of 14 for 120 yards.

Colder bulldozed in from two yards or less three times and Briar Woods also got TD runs from Brandon Polk and J.T. Logan.. Rolin led the defense with six tackles and McSorley and Darryll Gadsen had interceptions.

Reimers ended up with more tackles on defense (20) that rushing yards on offense (14).

Briar Woods hosts Woodgrove tonight. The Wolverines are coming off a tough loss to Loudoun County after opening the year 5-0.

Perhaps Briar Woods' dominance -- the Falcons have won 24 straight games against district foes dating back to a Oct. 9, 2009 loss at Loudoun County -- is illustrated by the string of scores in the last two weeks:
Briar Woods beat a Tuscarora team by 29 points that had beaten Loudoun County by 14 and then Loudoun County beat Woodgrove by 41.

Dulles District Schedule Tonight
Woodgrove at Briar Woods, 7 p.m.
John Champe at Manassas Park, 7:30 p.m. (non-district)
Loudoun Valley at Dominion, 7 p.m.
Park View at Loudoun County, 7 p.m.
Tuscarora at Potomac Falls, 7 p.m.
