Olympic boys earn national ranking, top spot in Observer's Sweet 16

Olympic High’s boys basketball team is No. 1 in the Observer’s Sweet 16 boys basketball poll.

The Trojans jumped into the top spot after former No. 1 West Charlotte lost in the championship game of the Junior Orange Bowl national bracket championship game to Potomac (MD) 57-55 Dec. 28. Andre’ Walker, a 6-foot-10 center, scored the game-winning bucket with less than five seconds left.

West Charlotte fell to No. 2 behind Olympic.

West Charlotte also fell out of USA Today’s top 25 national poll after its loss, dropping from No. 20. Olympic moved in, at No. 24. Olympic is led by Deriece Parks (18.8 ppg) and is winning games by 25 points per night.
