Several Charlotte-area high school basketball players will participate in the National Basketball Players association Top 100 camp at John Paul Jones Arena June 14-16 in Charlottesville, VA. In all, 109 players were invited.
The camp began in 1994 to assist elite high school players in development of basketball and life skills.
This year’s invitees include: Allerik Freeman (Olympic/Findlay Prep, NV, Class of 2013); Clayton Massey (Myers P ark, 2013); Kennedy Meeks (West Charlotte, 2013); and Sindarius Thornwell (Lancaster, 2013).
Raleigh Ravenscroft’s Anton Gill (2013), Sidy Mohamed Djitte (Fayetteville Northwood Temple, 2013) and Winston-Salem Prep’s Greg McClinton (2013) were also invited.

Jeremy Buck resigns as football coach at East Meck, takes Franklinton job
East Mecklenburg football coach Jeremy Buck has resigned, he told the Observer.
Buck said he was making the move for personal reasons.
"Due to the failing health of my family and my wife's family, I have resigned as head football coach at East Mecklenburg," Buck said in a text message. "I have taken a job back closer to home (in Chapel Hill) that will be announced (Friday) afternoon."
Buck, who previously coached at Harding, was 2-9 last season at East.
UPDATE: Buck was hired as coach at Franklinton Friday

P: Lexi Davis, Porter Ridge, Sr.: N.C. Gatorade player of the year had 0.235 ERA. Was 33-1 with 279 strikeouts. Hit .450 with eight HR, 11 doubles, 42 RBIs and 33 runs scored.
P: Chelsea Wilkinson, Alexander Central, Sr.: Ga. recruit set N.C. record for career wins (112) and shutouts (84). Had 0.23 ERA this season. Hit .333 with 32 RBIs.
C: Venus Gonzalez, Olympic, So.: ME-GA 7 player of the year hit .574 with 48 RBIs, including 16 doubles, seven triples and three HRhome runs.
INF: Taylor Burkhalter, East Burke, Sr.: Hit .719, third best in N.C. history with 22 RBIs. Broke state record with 16 consecutive hits without an out.
INF: Emily Poplin, South Stanly, Sr.: Second baseman hit .478 with 25 RBIs. Struck out seven times in 114 plate appearances and had .966 field percentage.
INF: Elena Covert, Providence, Sr: Shortstop hit .517 and had .939 field average percentage. All Southwestern 4A pick also had 27 stolen bases.
INF: Brittany Eudy, Central Cabarrus, Sr.: South Piedmont player of the year, a second baseman, hit .494 (including .616 with runners on base). She was 27-for-27 in stolen base attepts attempts and had 10 doubles, five triples, 30 runs scored and 25 RBIs. Made two errors all year.
OF: Emily Scott, Myers Park, Sr.: Centerfielder is a four-time All-Southwestern 4A pick. She hit .547 with eight doubles, two triples, one HR home run and 26 RBIs.
OF: Addie Bolick, Fred T. Foard, Jr.: All-conference pick hit six HR home runs with 23 RBIs. Hit .381 for N.C. 3A runners-up.
OF: Erin Powers, Ardrey Kell, So.: Hit .505 with seven doubles, four triples, 34 RBIs and 12 stolen bases. MVP of the Southwestern 4A tournament.
UT: Taylor Laskey, Cherryville, Sr.: Catcher was Southern Piedmont player of the year after hitting .440 with 11 home runs and 36 RBIs.

Hough High to host 7 on 7 football scrimmage Saturday

Rules
Each team will play 4 games 20 minutes each, against a different opponent each game. Teams will be in grouped in pods of five and the top two teams out of each pod will advance to the tournament. Lunch will be served A single elimination tournament will begin after lunch. The Championship game will be played at the stadium on a turf field and we will use the entire football field for the championship.
We will have a max of 30 people per team that includes players and coaches. All fields will be in walking distance This tournament will include teams from North and South Carolina with public and private school participating.
The fee per team is $150, which includes lunch for players and coaches.
Rules Scoring: Touchdowns are worth 7 points, there is no extra point. Ball starts on 40yd line Offense has 4 downs to make a first down (20 yd line), then 4 downs to score Change of possession restarts the offense at the 40 yd line QB has 4 seconds to release the ball ( Then the whistle will blow) Sacks equal a loss of down, restart ball at original Line of Scrimmage (LOS) NO running plays including QB 5 receivers are eligible 25 seconds to put ball in play (play clock)- if team exceeds 25 seconds, loss of down and play clock stops and will restart when ball is snapped Ball is dead when ball carrier is touched with one hand by defense from shoulders down It is the responsibility of the defense to avoid all contact NO blocking is permitted Interceptions count for 3 points
Overtime in the tournament play only! Start ball on 20yd line, 4 downs to score PAT attempt from 5yd line – 1 point (in overtime only) Each team has a chance to score
Butler LB Peter Kalambayi commits to Stanford
Butler High linebacker Peter Kalambayi committed to Stanford Saturday, Bulldogs coach Brian Hales said.
Kalambayi is the third Bulldog to commit to a major college in the past few weeks, following wide receiver Uriah LeMay (Georgia), wide receiver/defensive back Channing Stribling (Michigan) and quarterback Riley Ferguson (Tennessee).
Kalambayi, a 6-foot-3, 230-pound senior is ranked No. 80 nationally among seniors by rivals.com
